In the recent earnings report it was mentioned that Google's first foray into the smartphone arena, the Nexus One is profitable. Android apps have grown to over 58,000, a 70% growth over the last quarter of 2009.
"(The Nexus One)it is a profitable business for us... we are driving the business to be a profitable business," transcripts revealed. The Google Android operating system is "seeing more than 60 thousand devices sold and activations daily." The Android operating system works on 34 devices from different OEM partners
The Nexus One received a high-powered update with new features including multi-touch in the browser and maps. It now has voice to text filling in fields as well as turn-by-turn navigation. The Google Nexus One received excellent reviews, and then "issues" appeared with long waits for email support and touchiness with the touchscreen, which have been fixed.
For a while the Nexus One was the only Android smartphone with Android Eclair 2.1. An update to Android 2.1 was recently pushed out to Droid smartphones.
The Nexus One in April, May and June faces some stiff competition from the Droid Incredible, BlackBerry Bold 9650, HTC EVO 4G and new KIN social Windows Phones.
The Nexus One is available for AT&T and will be available for Sprint. Voice transcriptions on the the Nexus One removes swear words. Web banner ads contend that the Nexus One wallpaper has sentience.
