HP has purchased Palm for $1.2 Billion. The transaction was approved by the HP and Palm boards of directors. Palm was thee first company to combine a Palm computer with a phone with their groundbreaking Palm Treo. The Palm Blog notes that it will accelerate the webOS smartphone operating system.

Tina Teng, senior analyst, wireless communications, for iSuppli said, "With the Palm purchase, HP has positioned itself as a player in this great technology battle."

While Palm has made some headway in the smartphone market so far, the company's Pre smart phone offers significant advantages compared to Apple's benchmark iPhone.

"Palm's webOS appears to be superior to the Mac OS X used in the iPhone in the crucial area of multitasking capabilities," Teng said. "This is a key point of differentiation, combined with the product's multi-touch display."

HP formerly was only making smartphones with the Windows Phone OS. Both the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus received great reviews and are especially well-liked by women, who want to simplify their lives and be able to operate their phones with one hand.

Verizon is still offering the Buy One Get One Free 3G smartphone deals for these smartphones along with a price drop of the Palm Pre Plus down to $49.99 after rebates and $29.99 for the Palm Pixi Plus Plus after rebates. For an extra added bonus they made the Wi-Fi hotspot service FREE. Don't forget you can avoid waiting for a rebate when you use the Wireless and Mobile News' online coupon-link Instant Phone Rebate Only Available with Online Purchase.

The Palm Pre Plus packs a lot of power but doesn't have as many apps yet as the Droid Incredible that has gotten rave reviews.
